We believe that every child, despite their background deserves to own a book. They deserve to have the resources they need to get ahead in life. Yet 1 in 5 children in the UK do not have a book at home. We want to change that. Could you help us with our mission?
Our Work
So far we have donated books to over 1,200 children from some of the most disadvantaged postcodes in the UK.
About
Our project was set up by a primary school teacher, who trained as a literacy specialist. She noticed that children from disadvantaged backgrounds; where poverty was present within the home. Were not progressing as well with their literacy development.She worked tirelessly to provide children and families, from some of the most deprived backgrounds with literacy resources, tutoring and support and advice.She also recognised that these children had a shortage of books at home and experienced a multitude of barriers to accessing books.From these experiences, Barrow Borough Books was born. Since then we have donated over 1,200 books to children aged 4-11 who are living in areas of deprivation.
